Fight Week! – Soa “The Hulk” vs Bob “The Beast” Sapp

Can you feel that?  Yep, MMAVictor fans – we are almost at CFC21 and Soa’s epic battle against Sapp!  Now, I know, Sapp has had some funny videos poking fun at the Aussie fighter and is even enlisting the help of a fan to corner him, but lets not take anything away from him!  Sure, Sapp might not be a crafty veteran like a Jeff Monson (for example) but anyone the size of The Best and who can strike like him is always dangerous!  Remember, this is MMA, anything can happen.  Thankfully, for those of you who have been following along Soa’s journey on MMAVictor know full well that Soa never takes a challenge lightly and he is all business All Day Everyday!

Plus – the road to the UFC runs through Bob Sapp and if you don’t believe me – just watch:

@MMAWRITER1′s Pride On the Line-Fight Predictions UFC on Fuel 3

Poirier finishes Jung and should take the first title shot available:

When these two square off it will be a war and could get FOTN if Cerrone/Stephens doesn’t take it first. The only problem with that is I don’t see that happening. Poirier is $4-0 as a Featherweight and on his way up and I believe will one day be the champ. He is so aggressive, has danger in his hands, a mean ground game and an all around good fighter who is like a fine wine and will only get better with age. Jung has a solid chin and has some good cardio, but will that be enough to beat a man who knows it’s his time? Jung is a great fighter, but I see him be a marketing guy for some “super” fights, but just don’t see him having a championship in his future. I see both men coming out aggressive and throwing some hard leather at one another. I expect Poirier to get the better of the exchanges and hurt Jung early and punish him to a choke/submission late in the first round and take the next available title shot in the Featherweight division. Poirier submission 1st round/submission of the Night

Cerrone with get the better of Stephens and both will get FOTN:

This fight has the potential to stay standing, go to the ground, get in the clinch, wrestle and be FOTN. Both men will come to fight and both will be trying to finish this fight for their careers and the fans. Cerrone’s kickboxing will be too much for Stephens who will be looking for a one shot KO or multiple takedowns and he will get out worked and if he is not careful, submitted. Cerrone Unanimous/FOTN

Amir and Lopez will be bloddy and could steal FOTN:

Amir will be in his hometown and the last time he was, it was his most impressive performance in the UFC. Lopez won’t be bothered by the crowd, but Amir’s kicks could be his weakness or his own downfall. If Amir can fight his fight and keep his distance with kicks and movement, he can finish this fight for the crowd or take a bloody/dominate decision. Lopez needs to catch Amir’s kicks, get this fight to the ground, use/work his power from the ground/top position and could finish this fight or take a close decision for himself. I am still on the fence for you fans who are not familiar with Lopez. I just don’t see Amir losing this fight, especially at home. I see this being a bloody/war that could sneak under the radar and steal FOTN. Amir Unanimous

Someone will go night, night and get KO of the Night:

When Igor Pokrajac and Fabio Maldonado step into the octagon, fists are going to fly, someone is going night, night and someone will get KO of the Night. Pokrajac has won his last two fights by 1st round KO, Maldonado has a solid chin like granite and has heavy hands as well as Pokrajac. I see this fight endind early and not getting out of the 1st round. The problem is I like Pokrajac, but no one has Ko’ed Maldonado.  Pokrajac/Maldonado 1st round KO- Still on the Fence

The rest of my picks are as follows:

Hougland Unanimous over Yves Jabouin

Jason MacDonald chokes out Lawler 2nd round or late in the first

TJ Grant Unanimous over Prater

Marcus Levesseur 1st round tko/ko over Mckenzie

Tavares Unanimous over Yang

Jeff Curan 2nd round submission

Dos Anjos taps Shalorus and gives him his pink slip with 3 straight losses. Second round submission

Rivers 1st round KO/tko over Soto or vice versa. Both will come to throwdown. Don’t miss the first fight, that’s for sure!

@MMAWRITER1′S MMA MINUTE: Diaz Needs to quit making excuses and FIGHT!!

Nick Diaz was originally scheduled to face Estima in the main event at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo and the grappling fans that were expecting to see a super fight had to settle with Diaz being a no show for the event. Nick Diaz was a no show for his BJJ superfight this past weekend and he needs to quit making excuses and fight if you ask me. I am a huge Diaz fan and supporter and theses “excuses” are getting old. Nick Diaz blames “shady promoter” for BJJ superfight no show.

Today, Nick Diaz (allegedly) released the following status on Diaz Brothers official Facebook page, accusing the WJJ Expo organizers for skewing the weigh-in rules.

Diaz is currently under temporary suspension for failing his post UFC 137 drug test. Tomorrow, former Strikeforce Welterweight champion will appear before the Nevada State Athletic Commission for an official disciplinary hearing, looking to avoid a long-term suspension.

He is a great fighter and needs to realize that there are rules and regulations he needs to follow in order to fight. When he doesn’t fight, his fans suffer. Diaz supporters love to watch the “Stockton Bad Boy” in action and get pumped when ever he fights, but if he is just going to avoid fights, how long does he expect to keep his fans when he doesn’t even want to fight anymore and when he does he doesn’t show up?

I am still a huge Diaz Brother fan and I hold nothing against him, but if you train hard for a fight, which he did, and don’t show up, it just sounds like someone was scared to me and I know Diaz doesn’t get scared, so I’m not sure what is going through his head now a days? All I know, is that I love to watch him fight and hope I see him sooner than later.

Fight Week! – Soa “The Hulk” vs Bob “The Beast” Sapp

MMAVictor friends and fans we are finally here!  Yep, that is right, fight week for our very own Soa “The Hulk” is raring and ready for CFC21 and Bob “The Beast”!!!   Anyway, here is Soa’s latest blog entry for all of you and also a special treat too from Bob “The Best” himself.  Yes, below is Bob “The Beast” Sapp’s full fight video from his ugly loss over the weekend to former World Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski.  Something tells me Bob better get his shit together quick, because after that 44 second loss the Hulk Smash is coming like never before!

Anyway, everyone enjoy Bob’s terrible performance this passed weekend and just remember – FIGHT WEEK MEANS SOA BLOG WEEK!

All Day Everyday with “The Hulk”

Hey guys hope you all had a kick ass day. 7 days till “The Hulk” fights “The Beast”. My day started with a 5km run on the treadmill. Even though you might feel like a zombie when you crawl out of bed in the morning, it’s still going to be the best time to give anything your full attention – after you’re fully awake that is!

Most people find that after they put in a full day at work and then head to the gym their mental focus isn’t as good, they’re tired and so their workout would suffers. So give it a go in the morning guys! Southern Cross fit’s session this morning was 21rep, 17rep, 13rep, 9rep Virtual Shovel 40kg/24″ Over Head Walking Lunge 20kg completed in 9:06 I head home and rest for a while, later in the afternoon I start to get up and get ready to head to the gym for my work out. Tonight I do 4x5min rounds of stand-up, then 5x5mins rounds working off my back and finished off 2x5min rounds of working of the cage and take downs. In recent weeks I have been working off my back scrambling to get to my feet come monday I start on top in guard and its my turn to throw the beat down LOL. Still nothing hard cause I’ve done the hard work in the last couple of weeks just going through the motions.

I’m also making sure I don’t get injured so I’m very careful. When training 1 week out you should be taking things back cut back your session. This is the week where you keep everything short and sharp. Usually 2days out to the fight is when you just stretch and maybe a walk but no work out even though your body is so used to working out hard the 2 day break is good even though you just want to get in there and fight but the rest will do you a world of good. I head home its dinner time nothing different tonight for dinner same boring shit lol. I have grilled chicken salad no dressing and yes off course lots and lots of water.

I get ready for bed, tomorrow I have a sparring session then I rest up until Monday. Thanks guys for reading my blogs guys i hope some of it helps in any way. Much love to you all:)

All Day Every Day.
Soa “The Hulk”

TUF ‘Australia vs UK’ Officially Announced

#TUFSmahes!!!  Good news Australian MMA fighters and fans – TUF is coming!!  That is right, the UFC announced yesterday that the show is heading down under!  Full press release and information below:

Sydney, Australia – London, UK – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® has confirmed it will film an Australian edition of its hit reality television series, The Ultimate Fighter® (‘TUF’), giving Aussie and British mixed martial artists the opportunity to secure a lucrative contract with the world’s preeminent mixed martial arts (MMA) organization.

Registration is now open to all aspiring UFC fighters from Australia and the UK. Prospective competitors should visitau.ufc.com/TUFForm (Aus) or uk.ufc.com/TUFForm (UK) for registration forms, rules and qualification criteria. The live tryouts, scheduled for June 12 in Sydney and June 15 in London, will be open to fighters ranging in weight from 61kg to 77kg. Participants must be between 18 and 35 years of age and have had at least three verified professional fights (having won two).

The Australian series, dubbed The Smashes – a play on the 130 year-old cricket rivalry, will see undiscovered professional MMA fighters from Australia and the United Kingdom live together in The Ultimate Fighter House in Australia and compete against each other for a prized UFC contract. This is only the second time in TUF’s seven-year history that teams will represent their country of origin, the first taking place in 2009, during the ninth series, as Team USA took on Team UK.

“Australia and the UK have a fierce, long-standing rivalry, and where better to settle the score than in the UFC’s OctagonTM,” said Marshall Zelaznik, UFC’s Managing Director of International Development. “The popularity of MMA has exploded in Australia and the UK, with gyms opening all over the respective countries. There is an athlete in one of those gyms who hasn’t had the chance to show the world what he can do – The Ultimate Fighter is going give to him that opportunity. We’re going to discover the UFC’s future stars, you can bet on it.”

The Smashes marks the second international edition of The Ultimate Fighter® franchise. The first, currently airing in Brazil, brought in record viewership numbers, recording 12 million viewers for the Premiere episode and attesting to the successful global expansion of the series. With its continued worldwide success, the UFC hopes to one day host several tournaments in different countries, crowning one unanimous winner across an international format.

The series, The Ultimate Fighter, which debuted in 2005, is the longest running and most successful sports reality shows in the United States, and has been a springboard for some of the UFC’s most renowned fighters. Two of Australia’s best UFC talents, George Sotiropoulos and Kyle Noke, broke into the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter. Geelong’s George Sotiropoulos was featured in Season 6, eventually making the semifinals, while Dubbo’s Kyle Noke made it through to the quarterfinals in season 11.

Two of Britain’s finest athletes also entered the UFC by winning The Ultimate Fighter. Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping, one of the UFC’s best and most recognized fighters, won Season 3 in 2006 under the training of UFC legend Tito Ortiz. Ross ‘The Real Deal’ Pearson then followed by winning Season 9 in 2009, when the United States met a team from the United Kingdom. His coach was none other than fellow countryman, Bisping, who built a 6-1 record during his first stint as a mentor. Bisping once again took on a role as coach in season 14, becoming the first fighter to make three appearances on the series.

The show exploded the UFC’s popularity amongst American audiences. The first season, featuring UFC original legends Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture as coaches, included famed UFC names such as Forrest Griffin (light heavyweight winner), Josh Koscheck, Stephan Bonnar and Kenny Florian. The first finale, which took place on April 9, 2005, featured the iconic three-round battle between Stephan Bonnar and Forrest Griffin, and is remembered as one of the most important and famous bouts in UFC history.
