Bellator 69 Ends With A Tie?

So for those of you who have been living under a rock or a whiskey jar @BubbaGumpMMA and I had a little bet going last night on Bellator 69.  We ended up creating a special one-on-one tourney with the LOSER having to payout the FREE Bellator 69 pool.

Well, go figure but we TIED last night!  Now, before you all go spouting bullshit here is the proof:

So what happens now?  Well if you can believe it it gets worse….  The FREE Bellator 69 pool had a FOUR WAY TIE for first place.  Now, we could split that payout, but who really wants to win $2.50?  Sure, maybe someone who wants to buy some gum or in BubbaGump’s case some food stamps, but lets be real that’s not going to happen!  Don’t worry though – BubbaGump and I have something brewing for you all!

Don’t forget MMAVictor members we got another Bellator pool next week and currently its FULL!  BUT, if you want in just hit me up and I will make sure we expand it out and get you in!

#CFC21 Live Results Thread

We are live from Syndey, Australia for CFC21!  Results will be posted as they happen.  Just keep hitting F5 of follow me on twitter - @longhornsMMA)

CFC21 Results:

Rami El Chaoufani defeats Albert Patu via submission from a RNC, Round 1, 3:22.

Round 1 - Rami comes out quick with a solid take-down.  Little struggling and some quick work but Rami scores full mount.  Albert starting to posture but then turns around cause of the punches.  Rami has his back and sinks in a RNC and forces Albert to tap.  RNC, Round 1

Rob Lisita defeats Rory O’Connell via unanimous decision.

Rounds 1 Lisita and O’Connell circle and Lisita shoots for the takedown.  Lisita working very well on-top position and working his strikes.  Not much action near the middle until O’Connell scrambles and gets up.  O’Connell finished the round strong, but MMAVictor scores the round 10-9 for Lisita

Round 2 – O’Connell comes out again swinging and is put down on his back again.  Lisita working top position again with some heavy strikes.  O’Connell looking to scramble to his feet again, but Lisita is just too strong for him.  Lisita now working some angles and looking like he is setting up for a submission.  Lisita keeps fighting O’Connell’s scrambling as the round ends.  MMAVictor scores the round 10-9 for Lisita

Round 3 – Same old story this round, Lisita with the takedown AGAIN…  O’Connell trying to scramble and posture again, but Lisita seems to understand what O’Connell wants to do.  O’Connell finally gets the fight back up to its feet, but that was simply not enough.  MMAVictor scores the round 10-9 for Lisita – making it a clean sweep via UD.

James Vainikolo defeats Jon Leven via TKO due to strikes midway through round 3.

Round 1 – Both guys are standing and trading but Vainikolo winning the striking affair so far.  Both men clinch up and Vainikolo goes for a standing guillotine but fails to capitalize.  The fight lands onto the ground and Leven ends up grabbing side control as the round ends.  MMAVictor scores the round 10-9 for Vainikolo based off control and powershots.

Round 2 – Started out the same way in round two with both guys wanting to strike.  Leven is hanging outside of Vainikolo range and I don’t blame him right now.  Vainikolo landing every uppercut he is throwing right now.  Leven visibly hurt from some of the strikes as he is stepping into range more.  Leven with a couple of good leg kicks, but nothing stinging.  MMAVictor scores the round 10-9 for Vainikolo again based off control and powershots.

Round 3 – Again, same as the other two rounds, both guys standing and trading.  For some reason Leven’s like staying outside of Vainikolo range, but he is not going to win this fight doing that.  Little flurry and Leven ends up pinned against the fence.  Vainikolo dropping bombs in the corner and the referee is forced to step in and stop the fight.  I didn’t get an exact time, but looks to be about halfway.

Shabe Kafo defeats Kian Pham via twister submission, Round 2 1:33 mark.

Round 1 - Everyone is talking about this being FOTN potential here!    Both fighters start off with some feeling out strikes nothing major.  Kafo now shoots in and grabs Pham in a guillotine.  Looks like he is not all the way there as Pham is pushing his arms away.  Pham now on top and Kafo transitions and takes side control.  More scrambling and Pham takes back control and latches onto Kafo’s back as the scramble ensues.  Kafo looks like he may tap, but he ends up slipping out right in time for the bell.  Solid first round and MMAVictor is giving the round a 10-10.

Rounds 2 – Both fighters come out a little cautious this round as they look a little tired.  Kafo shoots in, takes Pham down and sinks in what looks to be a twister!  I have a feeling Joe Rogan / Eddie Bravo would be loving this right now.  Pham taps and this fight is over.  Great fight and definitely a FOTN candidate.

Dave Vergers defeats Manny Rodriguez via KO, Round 1.

Round 1 – Both fighters circling and throwing some feeling out jabs.  Vergers now working a some thai leg kicks and Manny is quickly returning with jabs.  Manny looks good so far countering and just like that this fight is over.  Vergers just landed a sick left hook that put Manny to the ground immediately.  He is having trouble moving so hopefully he is ok.  Vergers wins this fight by KO.

Corey Nelson defeats Dan Pauling via KO Round 1, 30 seconds.

Round 1 – Both fighters touch gloves and are Nelson is working a heavy jab combo.  Pauling coming in to close the distance and this fight is over.  Nelson just landed what looked to be an overhand right and a couple of shots on the ground for good measure.  The referee should have stepped in once that shot landed as Pauling was out on his feet.  Nelson wins this bight by KO.

Jeff Monson defeats Jim Yorke via unanimous decision (29-28 29-28 30-27)

Round 1 – Yorke definitely the larger of the two here and Monson seemed a bit dazed when his name was called so we will have to keep an eye on that.  Anyway, both guys working some strikes early on in the contest.  Monson shoots in for a failed takedown.  Great sprawl by Yorke and Monson still seems off.  The two are continuing to exchange and Yorke is definitely landing the better strikes.  Monson shoots in again, but once again nothing.  Monson shoots in one last time, but was able to secure it this time.  The round ends with Monson on top and this round MMAVictor scores 10-9 Yorke due to control and striking.

Round 2 –  Yorke comes out using his jab and is creating distance.  I am not sure if this is the best idea, but it is working so far for him.  Monson still looks odd to me and seems annoyed by Yorke’s range.  Monson shoots in for another failed takedown attempt.  Monson back on his feet again and tries for yet another takedown and misses the mark.  You can tell Yorke has worked extensively on the takedown defense as his sprawl is much improved.  The round ends comes to a close with the fans dropping heavy booos and Yorke using his jab to keep Monson out of range. MMAVictor scores the round 10-9 for Yorke again due to control and striking.

Round 3 – Yorke comes out again jabbing and working his distance.  Monson doesn’t waste any time by shooting in and finally scoring the takedown he has been looking for.  The crowd is still boooing, but it happens.  We are only halfway through the first minute here so Yorke is in trouble.  Yorke doesn’t seem to uncomfortable and is trying to scramble a bit.  Monson now in side control and is working some decent striking.  This is a solid round for Monson who has looked to finally wake up.  The round ends with Monson throwing some good blows and definitely dominating that round.  MMAVictor scores this round 10-9 for Monson.

WOW – and the judges go against me and give the decision to Monson.  Not going to lie, I didn’t see that one coming, but then again this is why you don’t let it go to the judges.  Although, I have a real problem with the judge who dropped a 30-27.

Soa Palelei defeats Bob Sapp via TKO, Round 1 about 20 seconds in.

Round 1 – Sapp rushes over at Soa and slips.  Sapp hits the mat, Soa pushes him into the corner and is throwing bombs.  Sapp looks to be out and the referee step in at about the 20 second mark.  Wow, didn’t see that one coming at all!  Soa survives the Sapp rush and wins by TKO.

Jesse Juarez defeats Robert Whittaker via unanimous  decision (46-49, 47-48, 47-48)

I lost internet connection during this fight as the venue is pretty bad.  The fight was basically a back and forth tussle with Juarez getting the better of the exchange and the ground.  I think you could argue Whittaker may have stolen a few of the rounds, but Juarez was just too much to handle tonight.  I wish I had more for you all, but this is what happens when you lose Internet and you were partying with MMAVictor.com sponsored fighter Soa!

I hope you all enjoyed our live coverage and we will see you tonight for Bellator!

@longhornsMMA Training Corner – MusclePharm (Assault) Supplement Review

So I have been seeing more-and-more people talking about Muscle Pharm’s pre-workout supplement – Assault.  As an #OccupyGym enthusiast and AFAA certified fitness trainer I have played around with every pre-workout supplement on the market, so it only made sense for me to try this new one (new to me at least) out and give the MMAVictor family a review.  I want to thank Chris for advertising Muscle Pharm like hell and for convincing me into giving it a go for a review. Enough of the BS talk though – lets roll with a review shall we.

Assault - ASSAULT provides bodybuilders, powerlifters, fighters and strength athletes with a potent pre- and intra- workout powerhouse that fuels limit-shattering levels of performance that are sure to bust through any plateau. Consume ASSAULT prior to training, or sip on it during the first part of your workout. From your first dose onward, feel a performance-boosting power surge that will power your entire workout, from stretching through to your final set.

Initial Thoughts: I have used every pre-workout supplement you can think of from MHP’s Dark Rage to BSN’s NOX to even VPX’s Redline so right off the bat I am an extremely tough sell on these supplements.  Most recently though, I have been swapping between Bettencourt Nutrition’s BullNox and ON’s Amino Energy.   Now, I am not going to lie, I was very skeptical going into this test as Muscle Pharm is extremely hyped, associated with the UFC and fairly new to the pre-workout game compared to others.  Then again, I am unbiased, so in this test I kept an open-mind throughout.

Timing:  Unlike most #OccupyGym enthusiasts, I workout once I wake up in the morning.  On a normal day, I get up around 4AM, and give myself about 30-40 minutes to mentally prepare and supplement up (I should note no meal / protein.)  Today, I followed this same routine and hammered the Assault within 10 minutes of waking up and gave myself a little bit of time for it to kick in.

Mixing:  As a veteran of pre-workout supplements I used a full scoop (hardcore workout – as labeled on the bottle) and it mixed very smoothly with a fork in 15 ounces of cold water.  Took about 20 seconds to completely dissolve and did have some remnants on the bottom of the bottle.  No biggie though, all very common and typical with the others.

Taste:  I have heard several people talk about how Assault doesn’t have a chalky after-taste and tastes like candy.  I could tell the minute I opened up the bottle of Assault Fruit Punch that it would be chalky and it was to me – sort of.  Honestly, chalky formula’s have a very distinct view and smell and this one mimicked some of the others I have tried in the past.   The other straight giveaway was that it specifically states to hydrate heavily while using, so that right there was a tell-tale sign. I will say this though, it was not a normal chalky aftertaste, it is very subtle bite that was clean and the overall taste was as advertised – LIKE CANDY!

Workout:   I always test pre-workout supplements on bicep and tricep day. Why?  Simple, arm day is the quickest and easiest way to grab a pump.  So again, today was like no other.  I Hit the gym – warmed up with quick 2 mile elliptical session, then pounded my biceps and triceps for solid 40 minutes and finished the workout off with some shadow boxing and jump rope.

Now, before I forget, I want to point out that supplements like Assault which have a high amount of beta alanine typically cause tingling and itching.  In my case with Assault, I can say that I had only a little bit of tingling when I was halfway through my cardio warm-up and had zero itching throughout.  Obviously, not everyone will have the same reaction, so take that for what it is worth.

Moreover, I was a little worried when I first hit the weight as I wasn’t feeling the normal pump as I was used too from other supplements, but in my head I wasn’t worried because Assault doesn’t have all the banned-fillers (my term, not the industries.)  Thankfully, within the first couple of sets of dumbbell bicep curls that initial normal pump was thrown out the window!  Yep, no joke, the minute the blood started flowing my muscles were pumped and ready to go.  The energy levels were nice and high too, but also not uncontrollable or dizzying like Dark Rage.  By the time I was through half of my weight routine I felt good, strong and had a serious pump going.   No fatigue, no excessive shakes, no upset stomach (damn you Size-On) and no odd side effects.  Overall, I can say that it was one of my best workouts in a while and I am excited for tomorrows chest session.

Post Workout:  Sometimes pre-workout supplements give you some post shakes and crash you down a bit a few hours after, but Assault was very different.  I am now about 5-6 hours away from my workout and I am still pumped and energetic!  That right there is a sign of a good pre-workout supplement!  Just to clarify too, its not a bad pump or hyper energy.  The pump is consistent with what people should expect from a pre-workout enhance and the energy is more of a consistent cool.  I know sounds like a deodorant right – consistent cool.  Sorry, bad joke.

Summary and Verdict:  After all the initial hesitation I can say without a doubt that this product is as-advertised.  Lets be real too, that is what you want from a company.  Too many companies say that they offer “x” and “y” and continually fail to deliver.  Assault is a stellar product and everything on the label is as-advertised!  I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I will be using this again tomorrow and definitely going to thank Chris and the MusclePharm team for this.

Now we just have to see how I feel a month from now!

UFC on FuelTV 3 – Post Fights With @longhornsMMA

MMAVictor members sorry for the issues last night but sometimes with greatness comes some struggle!  No worries though, we are making it up to you all with a huge FREE Bellator pool this Friday night and another cash payout Strikeforce pool on Saturday too!  Now, before we get ahead of ourselves, we still need to talk about the much forgotten UFC on FuelTV3 card!  For something that many like myself almost forget about, no one will ever forget Jung and Poirier’s performance!  Plus, we should all be thanking DW himself as if we didn’t get the extra two rounds for all main events this amazing outcome would have never happened.  Thank you Dana White!

  • The heavy underdog Chan Sun Jung submits Poirier using a D’arce choke late in the fourth round!  Honestly, this was one of my favorite fights of all time.  From the pin-point striking of Poirier to the smooth BJJ transitions of Jung this was an absolute ESPN “instant-classic” moment!  For those who missed this battle, Poirer controlled a good chunk of the beginning of the fight with his size and striking, until Jung was smart enough to bring the fight to the ground in the early second round where everything changed.  From there it was a battle of whits and eventually Jung forced the tap late in the fourth round.  Title shot for Jung?  I think it is time….
  • Amir Sodollah bores his hometown friends with a split decision victory over Justin Lopez.  In what was supposed to be a sweet homecoming for Amir turned into a lackluster affair.  I am not going to lie I think Amir won the fight 29-28, but I could have seen this fight going either way.  Neither really controlled any facet of the game, but Amir did have some good ground work going and in reality Lopez was in trouble a few times.  So again, my nod went to Amir, but I just hope next time he hits Virginia he has a little more spark for his hometown crowd!
  • The Cowboy reminds Jeremy Stephens who is the more dangerous striker with a dominant unanimous decision victory!  Is the cowboy back?  I am not exactly sure, but what I am sure of is that the cowboy OWNED this fight.  Literally every punch and kick was landed with attitude and Stephen’s had no answer for some of the sick combos.  Of all the rounds, the second was the cowboy’s most impressive as Stephen’s felt the wrath of a vicious uppercut that almost finished the fight.  With this loss Stephens finds himself slipping potentially to a pink slip and the cowboy seems to be getting closer to his horse again!
  • Yves Jabouin scores a unanimous decision victory over Jeff Hougland after almost finishing him no thanks to the referee.  If you aren’t a fan of decisions and missed this fight, you need to find it on YouTube.  There was a part when Jabouin fired a vicious spinning back kick to the liver that almost killed Hougland.  No lie.  I was honestly was stunned Hougland survived, but then again, if it wasn’t for the referee stepping in and adding some confusion to the setting it would have been a TKO victory for sure.  Very disappointing if you ask me, but sometimes less experienced referee’s like McGovern make mistakes.  Thankfully, Jabouin cast no doubt in the judges minds and grabbed the much needed win.  Jabouin is now 3-1 in the UFC and headed straight up the ladder.

Other Results:

  • Igor Pokrajac def. Fabio Maldonado via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)
  • Tom Lawlor def. Jason MacDonald via knockout (punches) – Round 1, 0:50
  • Brad Tavares def. Dongi Yang via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Cody McKenzie def. Marcus LeVesseur via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 1, 3:05
  • T.J. Grant def. Carlo Prater via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Rafael Dos Anjos def. Kamal Shalorus via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 1, 1:40
  • Johnny Eduardo def. Jeff Curran via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Francisco Rivera def. Alex Soto via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Lastly, don’t forget we are only a few days away from Strikeforce 40!!  So what are you waiting for get into the cash pool now!!!  Only 2 spots left…
