Chris Weidman vs Tim Boetsch Scheduled for UFC 155 in December

UFC 155 in December has just got more interesting with the announcement of a middleweight fight between two top contenders in Chris “The All American” Weidman and Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch.
Multiple outlets, including foxsports.com and newsday.com, today reported that verbal agreements are in place. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) subsequently confirmed it.
The fight will be part of the main card of UFC 155, which takes place Dec. 29 in Las Vegas at a venue to be announced.

Weidman  joined the UFC in early 2011 and posted five straight wins knocking off notables Demian Maia and Munoz in his most recent appearances. Weidman, who was hoping for a middleweight title shot against Anderson Silva after his one sided knock out of Mark Munoz, will instead be looking to continue his unbeaten run when he meets a fellow top contender Tim Boetsch.
Boetsch is 5-1 in his most recent UFC run (and 8-1 since a UFC 96 loss to Jason Brilz). Boetsch, a fellow Division I wrestler, has really cam into his own since moving down from light heavyweight. Since the drop down he’s posted consecutive wins over Kendall Grove, Nick Ring, former title challenger Yushin Okami and spoiled the fun when he beat ex-Bellator champ Hector Lombard.

With a potential “super fight” between Anderson Silva and GSP already being talked about, the winner of Boetsch/Weidman could be looking to fight the winner of UFC 152′s Bisping/Stann to determine a true number 1 contender in the middleweight division.
The latest UFC 155 card now includes:

  • Champ Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez – for heavyweight title*
  • Tim Boetsch vs. Chris Weidman*
  • Forrest Griffin vs. Chael Sonnen*
  • Joe Lauzon vs. Gray Maynard
  • Phil De Fries vs. Matt Mitrione

* – Not officially announced
