@MMAWRITER1′S MMA Minute: Hioki scared of Aldo? Aldo’s possible opponent makes NO sense!!!

MMAVictor fans, it’s time to talk the Featherweight division. The featherweight division has some good talent in it, but I don’t care who you are, you don’t turn down a title shot. Hatsu Hioki, who is rated in the top 5 in the featherweight division, was offered a title shot against Aldo and declined the opportunity. Instead, he will be facing Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FX: Maynard vs. Guida, June 22nd from Atlantic City. Lamas is good competition and is coming off a win over Cub Swanson and now has the opportunity to climb the ladder. If he can beat Hioki, he could be in line for a shot sooner than he thought. I personally don’t think Hatsu deserved a shot with a sloppy win over Roop (where I thought Roop won) and a dominate win over Bart Palaszewski. He is smart not taking the shot right away, but thinking Lamas is a great test before Aldo? There is no fight that is going to get you ready for Aldo. Personally I think Hatsu is scared cause he knows he hasn’t fought anybody close to Aldo’s level in the UFC yet, I would be too. The only fighter right now that I think even has a shot against the champ is Dustin Poirier who is fighting Jung next. Erik Koch is indeed the leading candidate to be the next challenger to Jose Aldo‘s belt. Koch has been out of action since last September after defeating Ultimate Fighter winner Jonathan Brookins and was supposed to return in February against Dustin Poirier but an injury sidelined him. So now he gets a title shot? This makes no sense to me at all! They want the winner of Poirier and Jung to fight for the title next, but they don’t want to wait. Instead, they want to force a title shot in the Featherweight division and apparently they are just giving shots away now. Koch is a good competitor, he is a beast and has great potential, but I don’t think he could even beat Poirier or Jung, let alone Aldo. Aldo is crazy good and I’m not saying anybody will be able to beat him anytime soon but Hatsu has the wrestling to maybe get him down, Poirier’s all around game could get it done but I just really think Koch isn’t even close to that level and will get destroyed. I just really think this makes no sense. I don’t know how a guy who hasn’t fought in awhile and who gets hurt, gets a title shot? I would rather see Chad Mendes get a rematch than see Koch get fed to the lions. Good luck Koch. It’s your lucky day, the two top guys are fighting each other soon, Hatsu is scared, so you are now the number one contender…….by default!    Very disappointed!
